Why is Accra the best place to visit in Africa?

Accra, Ghana’s capital, has been rated the best place to visit in Africa by TIME magazine. This honor places the motherland’s capital ahead of several other African nations.

According to TIME magazine, Accra is now simpler to reach thanks to more frequent flights into and out of Ghana. This is just one of the many reasons.

We have carefully developed a list of the reasons why Accra is the best place to visit in Africa to support this claim.

best place to visit in Africa

Accra is modern and liveable

The most significant aspect in determining how best a place is to visit is its liveability.

The layout of Accra makes it quite easy to travel about. There’s little to no need to use a cab or tro-tro if you’re staying in the city centre and don’t mind a little walking.

Accra is the best place to visit in Africa if you are adventurous and want to stroll about and experience city life for yourself. Accra is also more contemporary and urban than other African capitals. It is the African continent’s biggest financial centre.

A stroll around the airport’s streets will reveal some of Africa’s largest banks and financial businesses, as well as thriving start-ups.

Accra also boasts a thriving tech hub. As a result, you will meet people from all around Africa who live in Accra. The city also boasts a sizable expat community.

The best place to visit in Africa on any budget

Accra is one of the most expensive places in Africa. Although the cost of living in Accra is higher than in many other African cities, it is feasible to live on practically any budget.

You can subsist on a few dollars each day and live without sophisticated conveniences. Budget hotel rooms in less desirable neighbourhoods cost $10-$15 per night. Less if you’re ready to rough it a little and stay away from the city centre.

A decent local meal can be had for a couple of dollars. If you have high spending power and want to live it up, Accra is a great place to do so.

There are luxury international hotels, sophisticated dining establishments, and nightclubs.

Among the noteworthy high-end hotels are Golden Tulip, Kempinski, Movenpick, Accra City Hotel, Labadi Beach Hotel, and Airport View Hotel, among many more.

You will meet very friendly people

Ghanaians are well-known for their hospitality. It is not uncommon to see a Ghanaian provide lodging to someone they have never met.

Ghanaians are so tolerant and peaceful inside their own nation that it rubs off on others who aren’t from their country, race, or culture.

Ghana has around 15 ethnic groups, despite that, there has been no conflict between any of them since the country’s independence 65 years ago.

This is one of the main reasons Accra is the best place to visit in Africa (by far).

This is due to the people’s attitude, which produces a favourable and stable atmosphere for tourists to explore, stay, and do business.

Accra offers amazing sites to visit

Accra’s outstanding geographical position is one of the reasons for its appeal and adaptability which makes it one of the best places to be.

Accra is advantageously located in the midst of historical relics and tourist attractions.

Tourism is one of the reasons people visit Accra, and there are plenty of places to see in the city.

Some of the must-see attractions in Accra are:

Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum:
in the heart of Accra is the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum. It is the resting place of the premier president and Independence fighter of Ghana’s remains.

Shai Hills Resource Reserve:

The wildlife center sits at the edges of Accra itself, but it is yet the most easily accessible wildlife center in Ghana. The 48km² reserve has 5 hills in it, hence the name. It boasts of about 31 different mammals, 13 reptiles, and 17 birds species, waiting to be gazed at and marveled at.

Aburi Botanical Garden:

Located in Legon, a suburb of Accra. This is Ghana’s oldest botanical garden. It contains lots of flowers, birds, and butterflies.

Labadi Beach:

This beach is one of the most popular in all the country. It is always crowded on weekends and filled with many beaches ball games, horse riding and many more interesting activities.

 Nubuke foundation:

they specifically built this haven for the display of local art talent. This is a lovely spot to spend the day browsing one of their special events.

National Museum:

at the national museum, the history of the country is preserved and stored here. The cultural history of most ethnic groups in Ghana in form of the tools and other tangible materials is put on display and can be seen by the entire public.

A place to learn about African History

Accra is the best place in Africa to study about African history.

It has various historical relics, like as castles and cities that were important throughout Ghana’s colonial times.

Osu Castle, the Jamestown lighthouse, and the Cape Coast Castle in the nearby city of Cape Coast are living testaments to European presence in Africa.

The entertainment centre of Ghana

Another reason Accra is the best place to visit in Africa is that the city never sleeps. People are usually busy bustling or hustling in the metropolis, no matter what time of day it is.

The city comes alive at night, when everyone unwinds from a long day’s labor.

Expect to have a good time on the various scattered beaches around the coastline of Accra and Night clubs.

Labadi Beach, Kokrobite Beach, Sakumono Beach, Club Onyx, Bloombar, and The Garage are just a handful of the spots where the party comes to life.

Accra has everything. It is not only secure and financially feasible for many people, but it is also enjoyable and offers many interesting places to visit.

In the motherland’s heart, there is never a boring time.

With all these amazing features of Accra, its undoubtedly one of the best place to visit in Africa.

We hope this article has incentivized you to start packing to visit Accra. Do well to share this to your friends too!
